Google, everyone's favourite search engine, turned 23 on Monday

Google, everyone's favourite search engine, turned 23 on Monday, and the business made sure to commemorate the occasion with a doodle on its homepage. The Google doodle, as shown in the image above, displays a cake with the number "23" inscribed on top of it, with a birthday candle replacing the "L" in "Google."

It should be emphasised, however, that Google was officially launched on September 4, 1998. Though the company had celebrated its seventh birthday on that date for the previous seven years, it opted to move the celebrations to September 27 to coincide with the announcement of the search engine's record number of pages indexed.

The doodle's origins can be traced back to a month before Google's founding in 1998. The inaugural Google Doodle was inspired by the long-running “Burning Man” event in Black Rock City, Nevada.

Co-founded by Sergey Brin and Larry Page, is now the most extensively used search engine on the planet. Sundar Pichai, who took over from Page on October 24, 2015, is the company's current CEO. Meanwhile, Page was promoted to the same position at Alphabet Inc. Pichai also became the CEO of Alphabet on December 3, 2019.

Alphabet Inc. was formed on October 2, 2015, as a result of a Google reorganisation, and eventually became Google's parent company as well as the parent company of its previous subsidiaries.
